Introductory remarks

Abstract

I would like to say at the outset how much pleasure it gives me to be asked to open is discussion. The subject of water and ice has interested me for more than quarter of a century, and this discussion itself is evidence that the interest in this subject is as lively, if not more lively, than ever. The subject we are discussing is at of various forms of what is now called, more awkwardly, the water substance.
