Abstract
The early history of ionospheric investigations in the United States, from the first suggestion of its existence by Kennedy to the initial data procured with rockets, is outlined. A tabulation of the earlier groups and organizations in this field is followed by brief historical outlines of the work in certain technological and scientific areas. The report is concluded with an enumeration of several of the ionospherically related U.S. activities following the early 1950s.
