Abstract

The incidence of cardiovascular diseases has increased in the past several years. Saccharum officinarum is rich in water and sugar and contains various proteins, fats, vitamins, iron, calcium, organic acids, and other substances that are conducive to human metabolism. S. officinarum is mainly used for sugar production and is an important medicinal plant for disease therapy. A new active ingredient was extracted from S. officinarum, and its potential for treatment against acute myocardial infarction and the underlying mechanism were analyzed. Inflammatory cytokines in serum were tested by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Real-time RT-PCR was carried out for activating the nuclear factor kappa-B signaling pathway related to inflammation in myocardial tissues. The complete chloroplast genome of S. officinarum was investigated by Illumina pair-end sequencing. Neighbor-joining phylogenetic analysis was also conducted.
