Abstract
This work presents the synthesis of Li6YGd(BO3)3:Tb3+,Dy3+ (Lithium yttrium gadolinium borate) phosphors and characterization of their luminescence properties. The solid state reaction method was adopted for the synthesis of these
phosphors. These phosphors were optimized for the activators' concentrations i.e., 1.5 mol% for Tb3+ and 3 mol% for Dy3+. The homogeneous phase, uniform crystalline structure and overall uniform morphology of the synthesized phosphors were confirmed by X-ray diffraction
analysis (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The X-ray and ultraviolet-visible induced luminescence were measured. Several emission spectra were observed for these phosphors. The phosphors were characterized for X-ray induced integrated light yield and was found to be 60% for Li6YGd(BO3)3:Tb3+and
47% for Li6YGd(BO3)3:Dy3+ of that of commercially available X-ray imaging material Gd2O2S:Tb3+ (Gadox). The UV-induced integrated light yield of both Li6YGd(BO3)3:Tb3+,Dy3+
phosphors were measured to be 78% and 42% of commercial grade PDP material (Y,Gd)2O3:Eu3+), respectively. The 1931 Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) chromaticity coordinates were also measured for the synthesized phosphors.
