Abstract

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a common, preventable, treatable disease that affects breathing and permanent airflow limitation due to airway abnormalities usually caused by exposure to harmful particles. COPD, which has a high level of morbidity and mortality, is the 4th cause of death in the world. COPD causes limitation of life activities with symptoms such as dyspnea, cough, sputum, loss of appetite, weight loss, weakness, sleep problems, chest pain, anxiety. After respiratory activity symptoms in COPD patients, the most common symptom affects sleep activity, and it manifests as insomnia and sleep fragmentation. Sleep disorders lead to a decrease in the quality of life of patients and an increase in the burden of disease. Selection, implementation and evaluation of the most effective nursing interventions guide nurses in clinical decision-making in the care of this type of complex diseases that increase the need for nursing care in order to achieve desired patient outcomes and to maintain the healing processes. In this context, in this case report, the evaluation of the sleep activity of a COPD patient in line with NNN guidelines will be discussed.
