1. Judy Luigjes is a PhD student at the psychiatry department of the Academic Medical Centre Amsterdam (The Netherlands) and works under the supervision of Damiaan Denys and Wim van den Brink. Her research focuses on effectiveness and safety of deep brain stimulation treatment in patients with addiction and the mechanisms of deep brain stimulation in both addiction and obsessive–compulsive disorder.

Wim van den Brink is trained in psychiatric epidemiology and is currently Professor of Psychiatry and Addiction at the Academic Medical Center Amsterdam and Director of the Amsterdam Institute for Addiction Research. 3. Damiaan Denys is Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at the Academic Medical Centre Amsterdam and team leader at The Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience. He has contributed to research in phenomenology, clinical psychiatry, genetics, brain imaging, and pharmacotherapy of anxiety and compulsive disorders. A particular focus of his research is the development of deep brain stimulation for psychiatric disorders, such as obsessive–compulsive disorder, depression and addiction.
