Introduction

Abstract

Kerstin Schmidt and Joost van Loon provide a general introduction to this interdisciplinary volume by focusing on the question whether the controversies surrounding the solidarity, which stem from a multiplicity of perspectives that span across a wide range of disciplines within the Humanities and Social Sciences, can help us develop a better understanding of major issues for which this concept has been invoked as a possible solution. Reading across and between contributions gives us a sense of the immense potential that the concept might still hold for analysing many pertinent issues that our world is facing today.
