Abstract
In experiments on rats, the radioprotective properties of copper comp- lexes with Schiff bases, derivatives of the aromatic amino acid L-tyrosine and 2-, 3-, or 4-pyridinecarboxaldehydes (Cu2-Tyr, Cu3-Tyr and Cu4-Tyr) were studied. Metal complexes were administered intraperitoneally or orally at doses of 10 and 40 mg/kg 1 or 24 hours before X-ray irradiation at a dose of 500R, which is LD 50/30 for control irradiated animals. According to the results of the study, Cu2-Tyr had a weak radioprotective effect in all the applied preventive administration schemes, however, Cu3-Tyr and Cu4-Tyr showed a pronounced radioprotective activity, which was confirmed by survival, average life expectancy and antioxidant activity, which may be associated with their ability to maintain the corresponding level of the endogenous system of non-enzymatic antioxidant defense of the body. As a result of the obtained data and statistical analysis, it can be concluded that the location of the carboxaldehyde group, namely 3 and 4, is relative to the nitrogen of the pyridine ring.
