Researchers suggest that a disproportionate percentage of at-risk, minority adolescents in urban school systems have or are suspected of having learning disabilities and attentional problems. We describe methods that occupational therapists can use to support the academic competencies of at-risk, minority adolescents including kinesthetic, auditory, and visual learning strategies; organization and study skills; daily time management; and self-regulation and sensory overload prevention.
