Abstract

AbstractThis chapter presents a sociological approach that links mineral exploration company characteristics such as management style, culture, skill sets, resources and social responsibility strategy to the core concepts of sociological theory. It is a practical framework for managing a mineral exploration project and its interaction with surrounding communities. The core concepts include interactions and relationships, interactional needs, meanings, normative reference communities and change processes. The chapter presents easy to use tools that include relationship characterization indicators, relationship matrices and a generalized model of the sociological processes that play a role in the start-up and operation of a mineral exploration project.
