Abstract
Bandwidth and resolution are attributes that are related yet distinct. Bandwidth refers to the breadth of frequencies comprising a spectrum. Resolution deals with resolving power – it is tied primarily to the highest frequency in the spectrum. Good bandwidth and good resolution are both useful in reservoir characterization. Understandably therefore, improving these attribute values has been a priority since the early days of the seismic method. Progress in that regard has been continuous. After a brief review of basic principles, this paper discusses some of the key, recent advances. They span acquisition, processing and interpretation disciplines.
