Abstract
A powdery mildew fungus appearing on the leaves of Bistorta amplexicaulis in Pakistan is described as a new species, Erysiphe bistortae. This species is characterized by its large-sized chasmothecia and relatively small conidiophores. Because of biological and morphological
differences from related species, supplemented by results of molecular sequence analysis, the Asian powdery mildew on B. amplexicaulis warrants description as a species of its own.
