Abstract
AbstractThe thermodynamics and kinetics governing the stability of compositionally modulated materials are reviewed. Typical results of interdiffusion experiments on fcc and amorphous metals are discussed to demonstrate the sensitivity and special features of the technique. Two coarsening mechanisms, and the stability of orthogonal waves in phase separating systems are analyzed.
