Techniques for Archaeothermometry

Abstract

AbstractThis paper describes methods which have been used for the retrospective estimation of the firing temperatures of ancient ceramics, ranked by the reviewers in order of applicability from those considered least effective to the most successful. The techniques discussed include those that correlate color, physical, elastic and electronic properties, thermoluminescence sensitivity, morphology, mineralogy, and thermal behavior with temperature.
