Abstract
Design thinking is defined as the “creative problem-solving process”. Especially in recent years, it
includes values, principles and methods that have become widespread in more than one field. The principles of
design thinking are frequently encountered in interior design education content, which is one of the design fields
built on the basis of creative problem solving process. In the scope of this study, “design thinking components”
have been determined as the most comprehensive expression that can be used to describe the characteristics
such as attitude, principle, value, and point of view that are necessary for the individual in the application
of design thinking as a problem-solving approach. The components refer to the mind-set of individuals for
creative problem solving by using design thinking. It is aimed to determine the basic components that build
the concept of design thinking through the classification of qualitative data obtained from literature reviews.
As a result of the evaluation of the resources in the literature with document analysis, twenty-two design
thinking components were reached. Consequently, the common values between professional competencies
of interior design which are the most comprehensive source for the content of interior design education and
design thinking components have been discussed.
