Abstract
This first volume summarizes the observational data obtained by the CNRS/MNHN team, from 1963 to 1985, in the Makokou-Belinga area, North-East Gabon.
Four hundred and twenty four species of birds were recorded in this area, and many of them were photographed, tape-recorded, or collected for identification purposes. Nine other species were seen, but not definitely identified. Three hundred and sixty three bird species were recorded on the 2 kma of the M’Passa field station alone. Detailed information is given for most of the species on the status, habitat preferences, abundance, life-history characteristics, diet and reproduction.
A second volume will deal with more general problems of community and population ecology. Comparisons will then be made with the results of similar studies carried out elsewhere in the humid tropics.
