Abstract

Background: The triglyceride to glucose index (TyG) has been proposed as a reliable and simple alternative for the evaluation of insulin resistance (IR). By analyzing long-term laboratory data, we aim to evaluate the relationship between the TyG index and HOMA-IR in the Turkish adult population with isolated IFG, which is a major risk factor for T2DM. Furthermore, it is also to determine the cut off value of the TyG index in our population to estimate the IR. Materials-methods: In this study, the data collected from medical records of the total of 440 adults with IFG and control subjects, were evaluated retrospectively. Fasting glucose, lipid panel and insulin levels were analyzed with commercially reagents. (Roche Cobas C701, Roche Diagnostic, Germany). High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) method was used for HbA1C (Lifotronic H9, Lifotrophic Technology, Shenzhen, China). TyG, HOMA-IR, and TG/HDL-C were calculated. IR was defined as HOMA-IR >2.5. Results: A total of 440 patients, 230 of whom were controls and 210 of whom had IFG, were included in our study. The average age of the subjects was 42.5 ±12.0 years for the control and 44.7 ± 10.7 years for IFG. Glucose, total cholesterol, TG, LDL-C, insulin, HbA1C, TG/HDL-C, HOMA-IR, and TyG index were found to be significantly higher in the IFG patient group (p
