Design Optimisation of Mechanical Metamaterials

Abstract

In this presentation the speaker will describe the work undertaken in his group on mechanical metamaterial optimisation. This work includes the application of design optimisation methods to grade unit geometries for a range of different applications, such as frequency control, and to ensure manufacturability. He will also speak about the recent work undertaken on the design optimisation of a unit geometry to obtain complex, non-linear behaviour, accounting for large strains, contact and buckling.
