Abstract
We present a nano-optical platform based on Bloch surface waves (BSWs) which covers the cleaved end facet of a multicore optical fiber and we demonstrate a multiplexing application. The platform is interfaced with the fiber cores using specially designed subwavelength gratings. A 16% coupling efficiency between fiber modes and BSWs is measured. Interconnecting various fiber cores and BSWs directly at the end of a multicore fiber opens the perspective of highly compact complex optical functionalities for the design of “smart fiber”. In counterpart, optical fibers provide a unique opportunity to obtain turnkey nano-optical functions addressing a vast application domain ranging from telecommunications to medical sensing.
