Abstract

Although a large part of the demand for dental surgeons is still due to the presence of painful symptoms arising from carious processes and fractures, currently a large part of the demand for these professionals is due to the presence of cervical lesions which are not caused by caries. There are different non-carious cervical lesions, known as erosion, abfraction, abrasion and attrition, each with its own particular causal factor. This work aims to develop a brief summary of non-carious cervical lesions. A descriptive narrative literature review was carried out about non-carious cervical lesions, which was used as a bibliographical basis for the development of this work. Scientific articles available in the online databases BVSalud, PUBMed, Scielo, Lilacs and Google Scholar, published between 2015 and 2023, all available in Portuguese. After a brief reading of the abstracts, articles that were outside this time frame and/or that were available in languages other than Portuguese were discarded. At the end of this work, it is concluded that NCCLs are preventable, and it is up to professionals to guide patients regarding the risk of their installation. Guidance regarding brushing, eating habits and parafunctional acts must be part of the routine of dental consultations.
