Abstract
The objective of the study was to analyze the scientific literature about the relation between the mental health elderly caregivers’ and the regulation of their profession in Brazil, adopting the narrative review method. The methodological course was based on the following proposal: a description of the professional performance elderly caregivers’, followed by the analysis of the interference of this occupation in mental health and the presentation of possible auxiliary measures to minimize the damage to the caregiver's mental health. The literature indicates that caregivers have a loss in their quality of life, manifesting symptoms such as stress, social isolation, burden and depression. The destigmatization of the female figure of care and the regulation of the profession can contribute to a safer and healthier environment for caregivers.
