1. Jacob Gallagher-Ross is a doctoral candidate in the dramaturgy and dramatic criticism program at the Yale School of Drama, where he twice won the John W. Gassner Memorial Prize for criticism. An associate editor of Theater, he has also written for TDR, TheatreForum, and Canadian Theatre Review. He is a regular contributor to the Village Voice's theatre section, and has worked as a dramaturg at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival.

Abstract

Making noisy art for noisy times, New York ensemble Big Art Group's hyper-mediated aesthetic stages the sensory surfeit of modern life. Employing batteries of screens, prismatic live-feed video, and roaring digital soundscapes, the company's experiments with attention and perception create a new model for political theatre grounded in the contested dynamics of spectatorship.
