This essay discusses Pauline Hopkins's Of One Blood in the context of Hopkins's education at Boston's Girls' High, William James's new psychology, and radical Black Boston, including W.E.B. Du Bois and William Monroe Trotter. Hopkins's novel intervenes in debates over scientific disciplinization and Black education.
