Abstract

In practice, character assessments are focused on cognitive domain. The students are supposed to answer some questions from the book/s or learning program/s of character education. However, these tests do not qualify as the ‘character-assessment’ rather become a memory test of character. In order to assess whether character is incorporated in life, the specification of some domains is needed. Character is basically a concept of affective domain and quantifying it in accordance with its nature was a major objective of present study. ‘Educating for character’ is a global dream that has been stipulated as one of the educational outcomes in all countries. The study presumes that cultural context adequately shapes the character. So, the themes of character were identified and revalidated in Indian context. The paper justifies the quantification of character putting the contrary views. It also attempts to present the systematic steps for development of a ‘character assessment battery’.
