Abstract
Responses of 160 subjects to the Snyder Hope scale were factor analyzed. Oblique rotation yielded two factors, which were difficult to interpret. When the two variables that made the interpretation difficult were eliminated, the remaining six gave a single factor. Spearman-Brown formula, Cronbach coefficient α, analysis of variance, Rulon's split-half, and average correlation of one item with the rest of the items were also employed to estimate the reliability of the test. All the measures of homogeneity show the scale to be homogeneous, especially when the scale is reduced to six items.
