Abstract
In an investigation of the reliability of direction of conjugate lateral eye movements associated with thought, 34 Ss were twice given a test of proverb interpretation with an average of 3 days between test and retest. There were 12 proverbs and the lateral direction (right or left) of the first eye movement was recorded for each proverb as S began to reflect on its meaning. Test-retest reliability of a score defined as number of left eye movements in 12 trials was .78 for all Ss, .72 for males, and .80 for females. Individuals are consistent over time in direction of such eye movements.
