Abstract
Among possible definitions of optimal sizes of teams, participants in basketball, volleyball, soccer, and hockey agreed a roster size of about 25% greater and 25% smaller than perceived ideals of 11.9, 9.8, 16.3, and 16.1 respectively, were unsatisfactary for competition. Advantages and disadvantages of discrepant sizes were related to resources, team organization, and opportunity to compete.
