Abstract
An unwarranted assumption in clinical psychology is to equate the concepts of clinical significance and statistical significance. The intent of this brief note is to present an equation to evaluate the clinical significance of a test measure when the problem is to differentiate two groups and only means and standard deviations of the groups are available. The equation is illustrated by means of an example drawn from the clinical neuropsychological assessment literature.
