Abstract
Three specific hypotheses concerning Rorschach experience balance of 81 psychiatric patients were tested: (1) Subjects showing M > sum C (introversives) would be higher on Si of the MMPI than subjects showing M < sum C (extratensives). (2) Subjects showing M > sum C would be higher on Si of the MMPI than subjects showing M < sum C. (3) Males and females would show different experience balance types. In Study 1, 16 introversives were compared with 16 extratensives for their scores on Si and Sc, but the results showed no significant differences. Sex differences, also, were not significant. Study 2 replicated Study 1 with 21 introversives and 28 extratensives but indicated no significant differences on Si, Sc, or for sex. Since these negative findings corroborated other reported findings for the same variables, it was concluded that the meaning of Rorschach experience balance should be reconsidered since it is not synonymous with the concept of introversion-extraversion derived from objective personality measurements.
