Abstract
To test the hypothesis of a positive association between sensitization-repression scale score and frequency types of daydream behavior, 101 women and 105 men were administered a daydream-frequency measure (120 common daydreams categorized into 24 types) and Welsh's repression (R) and anxiety (A) scales. Difference scores on the A and R scales determine the degree of sensitization or repression. Support for the general hypothesis rested on the finding, for women, that degree of sensitization was positively associated with a variety of dysphoric and integrative daydreams (anxious, guilt or superego, hostile, death, achievement, self-aggrandizement, affiliative, money and possessions).
