Preference for Complex Stimuli as an Index of Diversive Exploration

Abstract

Frequently, tests of exploratory behavior allow Ss exposure to stimulus material and then measure how often or how long Ss choose to look at the same material. Such an approach does not preclude a tension-reduction interpretation of the data. Diversive exploration or the seeking of new experiences was demonstrated more decisively by the modified technique described.
