Abstract
30 Ss, 10 each in one control and two experimental groups, sorted 144 cards, 12 per trial under speeded conditions, into three relational concept categories. Experimental Ss encountered 4 intradimensional or extradimensional stimulus-change cards over Trials 7 and 8 designed to elicit the orienting reflex. Across Trials 6 through 12 mean sorting-time per trial was transiently affected by extradimensional stimulus change only, while mean transformed errors rose for the control group and declined for both experimental groups, indicating that stimulus change facilitated attention to concept utilization.
