Abstract
It has been suggested that scores on imagery questionnaires reflect the social desirability of experiencing imagery and that consequently the validity of these scores should be questioned. However, reported imagery was not affected by manipulation of experimenter's status or of instructions as to the desirability of imagery. Reported imagery scores usually correlated very poorly with social desirability scores ( r = –.19 to .46, median r = .07). Females reported more imagery than males.
