Abstract
As part of a comprehensive analysis of elite female collegiate athletes, 44 student-athletes (basketball, Softball, track and field, and volleyball) from a medium-sized state university in the southwestern United States were administered the Tennessee Self-concept Scale. Comparisons of scores on 8 dimensions and the Total Positive score yielded no between-group (team) differences. Results were the same when scores were compared to normative data. Preliminary results suggest that self-concept scores are not appropriate for differentiating between elite female collegiate athletes and other groups.
