Abstract
The purpose of the present study was to examine MMPI correlates of localized structural cerebral lesions classified according to laterality and caudality dimensions and to attempt to cross-validate previous work. 59 Ss with lateralized lesions principally involving anterior or posterior cerebral areas were tested. The results indicated that people with cerebral lesions show evidence of some degree of emotional disturbance, characterized particularly by neuroticlike manifestations In contrast to a number of previous research reports, differential findings did not emerge in association with the location of cerebral lesions. Based on the present results as well as review of the literature, it was concluded that laterality or caudality of lesion, per se, as the criterion for group composition based upon pathoanatomical information does not have a major differential influence on MMPI variables when groups of patients with mixed lesion types, as those represented in the present sample, are considered.
