Abstract
A series of four studies was conducted examining a variety of correlates of the Obscure Figures Test. Using hospitalized alcoholic patients as Ss, the OFT was found to be positively related to education, intelligence, and numerical aptitude, manual and finger dexterity, sensation-seeking, scientific and computational interests, and to the K, Ma, and Es scales of the MMPI. Negative relationships were found with Social Introversion and Welsh's R scale of the MMPI. The results were felt to support an analysis of “cognitive innovation” in terms of capacity to innovate and interest in stimulational variety.
