Abstract
A study of 240 attempted suicides indicated different patterns for males and females. The attempts for females seemed motivated more by severe interpersonal friction whereas the attempts of males tended to be preceded more by job loss, difficulties with the law, and alcoholism. The female attempters were more depressed than the males, but the males were more likely to be loners.
