Abstract
When specially selected “reversible” words were used as stimuli for the verbal transformation effect, subjects (13 men, 7 women) perceived significantly fewer forms and there was a greater probability that subjects would perceive alternation between two forms of the same stimulus. The results suggest that the similarity between visual reversals and the verbal transformation effect can be increased as a function of type of stimulus and the nature of the instructions.
