Demographic and Self-Report Characteristics of Lesbians

Abstract

82 Lesbians completed questionnaires concerning their characteristics. 80% accepted themselves as Lesbians, 74% did not consider themselves as either “Butch” or “Femme,” the majority had their first Lesbian experience between 15 and 19 yr. of age. All but two of the Lesbians reported they were mentally healthy. The majority thought they would be fired from their jobs if their employers knew they were gay, but only one had such experience.
