Abstract
The recognition of client role-deviance requires an analysis of the client's role as it is determined by the therapist's treatment plans. The control of this deviance is necessary if these plans are to be realized. The most effective means of deviance control are those which are adapted to the sources of the particular deviant behavior. The relations among treatment goals, the client-roles they require, types of role-deviance, its sources and the means of controlling role-deviance are analyzed.
