Abstract
2 experiments were performed to test the hypothesis that there are separate and distinguishable facial expressions for feat, sadness and pain. 14 photos were rated by 22 Js in the first experiment and 25 photos were rated by 25 Js in the second experiment. The Js showed a significant preference for either fear, sadness or pain in the labeling of 36 of the 39 total photos. In another experiment involving a much larger J group which used a response list of stories, these findings were replicated.
