Abstract
Wexner developed 11 groups of adjectives describing mood-tones. The adjective groups were judged to be homogeneous in meaning and have been used in studies of affective responses to hue. 96 subjects indicated the mood tone of a hue sample by rank ordering all relevant adjectives from Wexner's list of 29 adjectives. Homogeneity of Wexner's groupings was examined by determining whether subjects' second, third, or fourth ranked adjectives were from the same mood-tone group as their first ranked adjective. Several of Wexner's mood-tone groups did not appear to be homogeneous and the usefulness of using these grouped adjectives in investigations of affective responses to hues was questioned.
