Abstract
AbstractHere, a novel wide‐angle scanning array antenna composed of subarrays with variable radiation patterns is proposed. The subarray consists of two antenna units with tilted beams. With a specially designed feeding network, the phase difference between the antenna units of each subarray keeps the same as that between subarrays. Thus, the radiation pattern of the subarray automatically changes with the array factor. Theoretical analysis shows that the array scanning range can be expanded and the side lobe level (SLL) can be suppressed. A linear array is designed, fabricated, and measured to verify the presented method. The simulated and measured results agree well with each other. The results show that the array can scan from to with gain fluctuation of less than 3 dB and SLL lower than dB.
