Abstract
AbstractTechnological advancements have not only made the innovation landscape more complex but also enhanced communication among firms, emphasizing the significance of collaboration. Consequently, there has been a substantial increase in academic interest in innovation ecosystems, leading to a sizable body of research examining their emergence, evolution and governance. Innovation ecosystems operate by effectively coordinating and organizing interconnected entities to facilitate dynamic interactions and promote innovation or value creation. However, since the concept of ecosystems has been in development for a relatively short period of time, research in this area is still somewhat fragmented, with numerous unaddressed gaps. This study provides a comprehensive review of articles from leading management research journals published between 2018 and 2023, using both quantitative and qualitative methods to assess the current state of innovation ecosystem research. Based on our analysis, we propose a research agenda to address the gaps identified in current research.
