Abstract
The relationship among the liquid crystal thickness, fringing field effect and diffractive efficiency of the Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS) device is studied in this paper, by measuring two prepared LCoS devices working at 1550nm with liquid crystal thickness of 5µm and 7µm respectively. The width of the fly back region of the LCoS devices was measured under microscopy to characterize the effect of the fringing field effect. The results demonstrated that in most cases, the smaller the thickness of the liquid crystal layer, the narrower the fly back region, and the higher the diffractive efficiency, but the direction of the grating may also affect the width of the fly back region to a certain extent.
