Abstract
The scalp is a common site for several common inflammatory skin conditions, including seborrhoeic dermatitis and psoriasis. In severe cases these may be associated with hair loss. Inflammation in the dermis may cause secondary hair loss and alterations to the scalp, with thickening, folding and mucinosis. The scalp is a common site for primary skin tumours and secondary metastases. Lastly, the scalp can be associated with localised itch and pain or dysaesthesia. All of these are discussed in this chapter on the dermatoses of the scalp.
