Abstract

Given the myriad of available tests, guidelines and treatments, chronic infection with the hepatitis B virus (HBV) can seem daunting for the nonspecialist. However, its prevalence among some of the most vulnerable in society, the stigma surrounding it and its potential to lead to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) make it crucial for the frontline primary care physician to understand.
