Abstract
The initial excitement inspired by the landmark clinical trials demonstrating the benefits of statins for the prevention of cardiovascular disease was soon dampened by reports of adverse events. Tolerability has remained a controversial topic ever since. However, recent studies suggest that most reported adverse effects of statins can be attributed to the nocebo effect.
