Abstract
AbstractReduction of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons by sodium in the presence of the chelating ether diglyme in THF resulted in the formation of radical carbanion salts. The crystal structure of a Na(diglyme)2pyrenide, a new member in this material class, was solved from single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction data. The green compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c with unit cell parameters of a=8.9908(4) Å, b=16.6367(8) Å, c=19.1723(7) Å, β=94.734(2)°, V=2857.9(2) Å3, and Z=4 (T=20 °C).
