Urban Sanitation in Small Towns in Uttar Pradesh: A Study of Perception Analysis of Municipal Officials

Abstract

AbstractProviding safe, environmentally friendly sanitation is difficult. To achieve this economically friendly and sanitize environment, the Indian government has increased investment in urban sanitation, implemented new policies and regulations, and launched public awareness campaigns. Large cities in India have centralized sewerage systems with underground pipelines, pumping stations, and treatment plants. On‐site pit latrines, septic tanks, and other systems make up a large portion of urban toilets. While Swach Bharat Mission (SBM) will largely contain human waste, treating it will be difficult. Many Indian cities lack safe and sustainable sanitation, causing health problems and polluting water and soil. In contrast to on‐site sanitation systems, proper construction, maintenance management, and safe disposal of fecal sludge and septage from septic tanks and pit latrines have received little attention. Present paper purports to examine the views of municipal officials of selected urban local bodies (ULBs) of Uttar Pradesh pertaining to the urban sanitation, septage, and fecal sludge management.
